National College for High Speed Rail - doncaster

Photon Energy installed a 76.5 kWp photovoltaic (PV) system for National College for High Speed Rail, Doncaster, working alongside Briggs & Forrester. This installation was shortlisted by SPP for 'Commercial Rooftop Solar PV Project' 2017.

The National College for High Speed Rail is a modern educational facility featuring a steel Kalzip standing seam roof with saw-tooth style roof peaks.

Bisol 300 Wp modules were attached to the south-facing areas of the saw-tooth roof. The modules were affixed to the steel roof fabric, a using a K2 rail with S-5! clamps. Installing the modules on the 35° pitched roofs during wet and windy weather conditions created some health and safety challenges.

The modules were connected to two 33kW Sofarsolar inverters. The PV distribution board was then connected to a C.T. meter linked to a RiCo public display box to highlight the kWh generation and CO₂ saved.

Darren Cousins, Project Manager at Briggs & Forrester said: “Photon Energy were very professional throughout the installation process. They were able to be on-site at very short notice, rose to the challenge of installing the modules on the saw-tooth shaped roof areas and have managed the associated health and safety issues very professionally.”
