King's College London

Photon Energy retrofitted an 85 kWp photovoltaic (PV) system on King’s College London, Great Dover Street Apartments.

The Great Dover Street Apartments, one of a number of student accommodation blocks belonging to King’s College London, were retrofitted with solar PV that will generate 71,500 kWh per year and save 37,114 kgCO2/year. The project was initiated as a pilot scheme, in order to provide valuable insight for the planned future roll out of retrofit PV systems across other college campuses.

The Great Dover Street Apartments are comprised of three buildings positioned in a horse-shoe shape around a courtyard. A PV array was designed for each of these buildings to gain the maximum output from the southern, south-eastern and south-western facing roofs.

The three apartment blocks were installed with a total of 288 Bisol monocrystalline PV modules that have a power rating of 295 Wp. K2 Systems supplied a low ballast K2-S-Dome mounting kit.  Zeversolar Eversol inverters, one of the most cost effective and leading brands, were chosen for all three buildings.

This is the second student accommodation installation we have for completed for King’s College, having won the contract to install a 102 kWp system at the Champion Hill building, Denmark Hill, in 2014. The college has committed to a reduction of 43% in carbon emissions by 2019/2020 against a 2005/06 baseline.
