Whiteley Cinema and Leisure Complex

Photon Energy has installed a 101 kWp solar PV system at Whiteley Cinema and Leisure Complex, Hampshire, working alongside Dawnus Construction.

Details of the installation

Photon Energy were awarded a contract by Dawnus Construction to install a 101 kWp solar PV system for new £10.1 million cinema and leisure complex in Fareham, Hampshire.

The standing seam roof was mounted with a total of 404 Upsolar 250 Wp PV modules, fixed to a K2 S-Dome mounting system.

The solar PV is expected to generate 93,720 kWh of electricity (and save 50 tonnes of CO2 emissions) each year, all of which is being exported to the grid rather than used on site.

Photon Energy gave careful consideration to the future maintenance requirements of the PV system, by building integrated walkways at various points throughout the installation.

Whiteley Cinema and Leisure Development involved the provision of a new high quality two storey building comprising a multiplex cinema with retail units below. It includes a nine-screen cinema, with floor space totalling 2633m².

The inclusion of a solar PV installation as part of a package of environmental and waste management measures, enabled the building to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating. Over 95% of waste was re-used or recycled on site.

Abu Luswata, Senior Engineer of Photon Energy said: “It was a pleasure to work on this project with Dawnus Construction, in a very pleasant green area of the South of England, where many of the surrounding buildings were already fitted with solar PV.”
