Great Western Academy

Photon Energy has installed a 124.2 kWp solar PV system at Great Western Academy, Swindon, for BAM Construct UK.

Details of the installation

Photon Energy won the tender to install a 124.2 kWp solar PV system at Great Western Academy, a new £21m school located in Swindon, for regular client, BAM Construct UK.

The school features a low-pitched standing seam Euroclad roof that was designed to have space for 4 areas of solar PV modules, with walkways built between them to allow access for maintenance.

A total of 460 Trina 270 Wp polycrystalline modules were fixed to K2 SolidRails with Euroseam clamps and then connected to three phase Solis inverters.

The school was opened in September 2018, with the PV system ensuring it can operate with a high degree of energy efficiency. The expected annual energy output of 112,300 kWh, equivalent to 58,200 kg CO₂/year will result in the school being able to offset approximately 50 kg CO₂/year per pupil when it reaches the maximum capacity of 1,210.

Julian Knight, Electrical Engineer at BAM Construction said:

“Photon Energy were professional at all times, ensuring compliance with the latest Health and Safety regulations.”
