BAM Construction - Chiswick Green

Photon Energy recently completed the installation of a 53 kWp solar PV system at the prestigious Chiswick Green headquarters building in London for BAM Construction.

Details of the installation

The PV system used high efficiency Sanyo PV modules to help the building reach its target of BREEAM Excellent.  As space was extremely limited, the PV modules were pitched at 8 degrees and the rows of modules were only 35 cm apart in order to maximise the power installed on the available roof area.

Designing the mounting system for the PV modules was not straightforward as it had to be fastened to a steel mesh deck roof above a plant room.  A solution was developed using a special mesh deck and a custom designed mounting system from K2 Systems GmbH.

The client also wanted a bespoke, stainless steel display unit for the main reception area of the office building to provide information on how the system is performing to visitors to the building.

The PV system will generate more than 40,000 kWh each year and will save more than 500,000kg of carbon dioxide over its 25 year life time.  With revenues from the feed-in tariff, the system will also provide a revenue stream for the building owners for the next 25 years.

Simon Barrett, Senior Project Surveyor with BAM Construction, said:

“The installation of the PV cells at Chiswick Green was a huge success.”
