farnborough exhibition centre - Hampshire
Photon Energy was awarded the contract to install a 101.79 kWp solar PV system for Wates at the new £30 million purpose-built exhibition hall overlooking the runway at Farnborough airport.
A total of 377 Trina Solar 270 Wp modules were mounted in a single area of the south facing Euroclad roof, fixed to a K2 Systems SolidRail Ultralight mounting system and connected to Sofar Solar inverters.
This installation incorporated Fireman switches to ensure enhanced levels of safety for users and the fire department, in the event of an emergency.
As the PV array was located close to the airport runway, compliance with stricter-than-usual health and safety measures was necessary to ensure security for all site operatives.
The new £30m development at Farnborough Airport has been designed to be a state-of-the-art exhibition and conference venue, flexible enough for hosting year-round events and conferences.
The solar PV is expected to generate 95,952 kWh of electricity and save 49.8 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year.
Lee Watkins, MEP Site Manager, from Wates Group said: “It was a pleasure to work on this project with Photon Energy’s experienced project managers and installation team. We would be happy to use them again on future projects.”
