Project Engineer
Established in 2006, Photon Energy is one of the UK’s leading independent installers of large solar PV systems to the commercial and public sectors with a reputation for engineering excellence.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, hard-working person to join our team as a Project Engineer.
You will be based at our headquarters in Reading, Berkshire. As a Project Engineer you will have a key role in delivering a professional and high quality service to our customers making sure that our installations are completed on time, on budget and meeting our strict health and safety requirements.
Key tasks and responsibilities include:
To assist Business Development Managers with customer enquiries.
To prepare quotations for all sizes of PV systems as required by prospective customers.
To attend client meetings alone or with Business Development Managers.
To work with Assistant Project Engineers in the management of PV projects.
To both carry out and sign off system design, design drawings and site documentation.
To sign off H&S documentation prepared by Assistant Project Engineers.
To liaise with Stores Supervisor and Site Operatives during the installation of the PV system.
To sign off O&M and handover documentation prepared by Assistant Project Engineers.
To complete end of project cost analysis.
To promote Photon Energy’s business.
To abide by Photon Energy’s working practices, Health and Safety procedures and Quality Management System as well as relevant statutory and regulatory codes.
Key competencies:
Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree or equivalent
Proficient knowledge of MS Office and AutoCAD
Good technical knowledge of solar PV
Good understanding of the construction industry
Experience with installation of solar PV systems

PV Installer Electrical

We are seeking an enthusiastic, hard-working person to join our team as a PV Installer.
Key tasks and responsibilities include:
To carry out installation of solar PV systems in accordance with Photon Energy’s design documentation under guidance of Site Supervisor or alone with relevant training and qualifications.
To ensure Photon Energy’s working practices, Health and Safety Procedures and Quality Management System as well as statutory and regulatory codes are implemented.
Key competencies:
Basic Knowledge and understanding of roof types and different mounting systems. Be able to read drawings and set out systems.
Stringing of the DC cables and testing. Install cable containment (including cable tray/trunking) and framework for inverters and distribution boards etc.
Electrical connection of systems. Commissioning of basic systems.
Good understanding of health and safety issues that affect installation work.
No other specific competences are required; however, more experience and/or knowledge in the respective fields are desirable and should be worked towards.
Hold appropriate CSCS Card or equivalent.

Estimator
Established in 2006, Photon Energy is one of the UK’s leading independent installers of large solar PV systems to the commercial and public sectors with a reputation for engineering excellence.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, hard-working person to join our Estimating Team.
You will be based at our headquarters in Reading, Berkshire and will be responsible for working with our sales team to produce outline designs and cost estimates for solar PV projects ranging in value from £30,000 to over £1,000,000.
Key tasks and responsibilities include:
Interpreting specification documents and liaising with our sales team to ensure accurate costings and designs are developed in line with client requirements
Assisting with the preparation of quotes and tenders
Undertaking on-site surveys
Attending tender and site review meetings as required
Key competencies:
A good degree in electrical, mechanical or combined engineering or be a qualified electrician looking to move into estimating.
Strong working knowledge of Excel and other MS Office packages as well as AutoCAD.
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Knowledge of solar PV, although desirable is not essential.
A thorough understanding of the practicalities of construction sites and installation work.
Knowledge and experience of the UK building industry and of practical aspects of electrical installations would be an advantage.

Operation and Maintenance Engineer - Office Based

We are now seeking an enthusiastic, hard-working person to join our team as an Operations and Maintenance Engineer. You will be based at our headquarters in Reading, Berkshire.
Operations and Maintenance Engineers at Photon Energy have a key role in delivering a professional and high quality O&M service to our customers. We now have a growing number of ongoing O&M contracts and Operations and Maintenance Engineers are responsible for daily and weekly monitoring of these systems.
Responsibilities will include:
Daily / weekly / monthly monitoring of PV systems for faults.
Ongoing monitoring of system performance in relation to performance targets.
Produce written monthly/quarterly/annual performance reports for PV systems under ongoing O&M contracts.
Arrange / attend planned maintenance visits
Arrange / attend fault finding investigations to ensure performance targets are met.
Arrange replacement equipment under warranty and control warranty claims.
Produce written reports from fault finding site visits on current status, and future work required.
Produce quotations for new O&M work.
Work with Business Development Managers to secure O&M contracts on retrofit projects.
Ideally you will have a good degree in electrical or combined engineering or similar. You will need a thorough understanding of the practicalities of construction sites and installation work and you may be working on site from time to time. Knowledge/experience of the UK building industry and of practical aspects of electrical installations as well as relevant health and safety training would be an advantage.

The Operations and Maintenance Manager at Photon Energy has a key role in delivering a professional and high quality service to our customers ensuring that all Operations and Maintenance (O&M) work is completed on time, on budget and meeting our strict health and safety requirements. You will be responsible for ensuring efficient delivery of a number of existing O&M contracts for solar PV systems, and for working with our Business Development Managers to put in place contracts for new installations.
Responsibilities will include:
Plan and schedule all O&M site visits (these may be reactive to customer queries or ongoing annual contracts).
Manage a team of O&M Engineers.
Ensure ongoing monitoring of performance of systems under ongoing O&M contracts on a weekly and monthly basis.
Produce written monthly/quarterly/annual performance reports for PV systems under ongoing O&M contracts.
Produce written reports from fault finding site visits on current status, and future work required.
Oversee purchasing of materials for O&M works.

Graduate Engineer

We are seeking applications from new engineering graduates to join our Graduate Engineer Training Programme based at our headquarters in Reading, Berkshire.
The programme has been established to ensure that our new graduate engineers benefit from the wide range of activities we undertake across the business. As well as participating in our extensive in-house training programme, selected graduates will gain experience of:
Electrical and mechanical design of solar PV systems
Project management
Practical on site experience of installation work
Sales, pricing and client meetings
Purchasing and warehouse operations
Our Graduate Engineer Training Programme will provide you with the building blocks to enable you to accelerate your personal development and career progression. The programme runs over two years and has a focus on ensuring our engineers develop the leadership and project management skills to enhance their career progression.
Ultimately our graduate programme has been developed to enable candidates to become Chartered Engineers and to become future leaders within Photon Energy. In addition to a 2.1 or equivalent degree in electrical, mechanical or combined engineering (or similar) applicants should:
Be organised reliable with a multi-tasking approach to project delivery
Have excellent written and oral communication skills, and be completely fluent in English with a good telephone manner
